Callisham Tor is one I would never have known existed had I not been on a mission to photograph all the tors on Dartmoor! I was surprised and delighted to find we could park the car at The Royal Oak at Meavy. So with the promise of liquid refreshment at the end, we set off down a quiet footpath for a lovely short circular walk taking in this hidden tor.
The tor is nothing but a mishmash of rocks which fall from a 1.5m high stack for 25m downhill. It is on private land so we could have been spared the climb on such a hot day but the family climbed up to the top of the hill anyway to get as close as possible. You might just be able to make out some of the rocks in the top left hand corner of the photo although they are camouflaged amongst all the trees and greenery.
The enthusiasm of those running down the hill I am sure had nothing to do with the thought of a drink, a packet of crisps and handstands on the quintessentially English village green at Meavy!
